I have never seen someone demolish a scholar’s reputation as savagely as Richard Epstein demolishing his own. https://www.newyorker.com/news/q-and-a/the-contrarian-coronavirus-theory-that-informed-the-trump-administration …

Don't you think economics, as a discipline, should have done a better job policing the "law and economics" movement, which often borrowed reputation of economics for dubious ends?

Hell, it doesn't stop at the "law and economics" movement. Look at all the serious right wingers (some Nobel prize winners!) who said that inflation would come from QE and stimulus (2008) was "schlock economics".

Economics as a discipline doesn't even "police" itself with all the pseudo-social science BS it pushes. NBER and the top 5 journals still tolerates eugenics-lite arguments to explain economic inequality.

Segments of the Chicago school still hold onto the rational expectation hypothesis and Beckerian microeconomics though most of it has disproven through the empirical revolution

Fair. Economics kind of acts like a bystander. But it wasn’t. Curious as to how many prominent economists have written peer reviewed articles—or popular ones—attacking L and E.

At what point have economic academics ever been right about anything? My B-school economics professors were the most useless bunch of never worked in the real world group of arrogant windbags ever. Taught me everything I needed to know about the ‘science’. Philosophy with graphs.
