As you read various arguments floating around that perhaps we should ease public health restrictions to help the economy, I want you to notice that IN NO CASE ARE THESE ARGUMENTS BEING MADE BY ACTUAL ECONOMISTS.

Imagining Laffer getting a hockey stick to the face in some economist gangland pouncing in a back alley: “Eat this curve, Arthur!”

You ever try to police economists, Jeet? They are IMHO worse than cats or squirrels...
-
Also, as Justin points out, actual economists are not making these claims.

How does the Econ field as a whole do this? Lots of individual economists, including some *very* prominent ones in the field, speak out against Econ quackery. Media outlets continue to give quacks a platform and describe them as credible. Econs don't specialize in media relations
-
Likewise, most members of the media aren't trained in Econ (in any serious depth, at least). There's a language barrier. Many members of the media have trouble differentiating between a reputable economist and a quack, and most economists don't have the tools to correct the media

In the same way that you need to do a better job of policing random journo hacks? Come on-- this is an absurd line of reasoning.
