I see a bunch of "can you believe capitalism means that we as a society can't stop working for just a month or two without massive economic dislocation" posts and I have questions.

or "capitalist globalization now appears to be biologically unsustainable." Period.

Nothing beats that always reliable autarky.

Was the economic system of 14th century Europe "biologically unsustainable in the absence of a truly international public health infrastructure"? What would it mean to say so?
-
We have better science than the 14th century so are able to create an international public health infrastructure, if wanted, as our ancestors were not.

Jeet, I'm a big fan. But absolutely no one is saying this. What's so frustrating is that there are plenty of legit complaints to be made about Capitalism! There is no reason to blame it for things that would happen under similarly global Socialism/Communism.

Communists would have shut down the wet markets! (Looks at map)

"Unsustainable" is the wrong word. There's nothing new about horrific pandemics. What's new is that the world now goes to extraordinary lengths, as it should, to minimize the death toll.
