2. The young & poor suffer from school closing in multiple ways: they are most vulnerable to disruption effect & denial of social services. And they are making this sacrifice largely on behalf of others (older people). So there should be compensation.

3. Compensation can take multiple forms: money for lost breakfast & lunch programs, money for childcare, money for connectivity & homeschooling (books). Money or lost income from parents having to stay at home. This is money they owed. They are sacrificing.

It's 100% worth it, it will rip through the vulnerable parts of school staffs and travel with kids home. They should be closed already. Everything needs to stop, yesterday

Doctors, nurses, inhalation techs, radiology techs, EMS workers, firefighters, police...on and on.....have kids too. Do you suggest that (particularly in NYC with 8.6 million souls) they all stay home from work to care for their kids? Do you have a solution for that?
-
Why not close most schools and keep a few open for those kids who really need a place to go? Keep the cafeterias open everywhere so kids can still stop in for food, like they do in summer.

How about airline/travel industry folks? All tanking! With a 1 income household worker age 63 - a layoff will be catastrophic. It’s not just the young, but those of us who are just reaching retirement will be out of work and unable to be hired due to AGE DISCRIMINATION!

It's necessary for the healthcare system too. Taking kids out of school is going to take doctors and nurses off the line to take on the additional childcare requirements.

There are no easy answers. We need to find ways to replace the safety net function of schools (meals, health care...). This is difficult for US bcs we don’t value systems that provide basic needs. If we had them in place, then emergencies would be easier.
