We can't discount the fact that America is not just a democracy, but an ideological state. Just as older Russians still vote Communist, older Americans are infected with Cold War-era capitalist-patriotism.

And whats the excuse going to be next time? Trump is not an abberation, he is the republican party, their next candidate will just be a more malicious, competent version of the same. When will 'moderates' have a political ideology that looks further than the next election?

I'm a successful boomer and I still think America's been on a steady decline ever since I was first able to vote in 1980 and Reagan won.

I’m pretty sure everybody forgets about Gen X completely when they make statements like this. A lot of us were just getting started in our careers in our mid 20s when the dotcom bust and 9/11 happened. We had the promise of boom for years but none of the payoff.
