The vast majority of China's 1 billion+ people still lack any immunity-- how does this end for any country before most of its population gets sick or a vaccine is developed? Seems like China (and everyone else) will inevitably be fighting outbreaks for at least a year

A vaccine will take a year to work through clinical trials, at least. In that time we need to work on containment and social distancing to reduce the spread. The social and financial costs will be enormous.
