I've read anecdotes (not found a comprehensive survey) that many folks voting in primaries were previously registered Independent or even Republican, and they primarily skewed towards Biden. If this is the case, Biden may very well be the best candidate for the general election.

May be less of an issue in 2024 just because I can't imagine anyone running that would actually excite young people enough that they consistently back them the way they do Bernie. I can't see Bernie running in 2024.
