2. We should be clear-eyed that even if we don't like "the return to normality" message, it has a lot of appeal -- not just in the primaries but in the general. Biden could win on it. But it's also a message that is has real risks in terms of governing.

5. In a deeper sense, we need to accept there will never again be normality, certainly not in an age of climate change. Our problems are only going to get bigger, which is why seeking comfort in familiar paths is a stopgap measure.
