I really loved the Greta Gerwig adaptation of Little Women (not least because our three daughters basically have the same sororal dynamic as the 4 March sisters). If you believe that the filmmaker is obligated to replicate the ideology/politics of the original, that's all well and good. Dee Rees on the other hand turns Didion's politics inside out in her version of "The Last Thing He Wanted" so I eagerly await Jones' condemnation of that.

gerwig has said that most the script is written in Alcotts words and that gerwig was surpirsed to see a lot of what alcott was saying resonate to today

Interestingly, two friends of mine who love Little Women the novel fiercely had similar issues with Gerwig’s adaptation. I liked it better but felt it was a bit overpraised at year’s end.
