with good audio production, editing, and scripts, podcast people can sound pretty slick, but you can really tell the difference between them and the true *broadcast* pros during a live show/recording, the podders get way too hyped up, especially at the beginning, talk fast + loud

This relates, I think, to Tom Wolfe's observation (stolen from McLuhan) that the "tone" of outlets like NPR is meant to be a sedative, to reassure audience that the normal structures of the world are in place & nothing to be excited about.
