Elizabeth Warren's debate performance has a number of commentators, like @michelleinbklyn, revisiting the question of her electability. I think she may be a stronger general election than primary candidate, for reasons I draw out here.https://www.niskanencenter.org/building-a-better-warrenism/ …

I think the plan message is deadly and I'm a college-educated white. DJT didn't win b/c he had plans. He's not hurt w/his base b/c he still doesn't have many and the ones he has are bad. This, sad to say, is an emotion election.

I think Warren has still missed opportunities for highlighting more of her simplest, pragmatic, kitchen sink, progressive but widely popular plans. She plans to raise EVERYONE's SS benefits by $2400/year immediately, funded only by taxing rich. Sanders' plan is Max $1300/yr.

This is broadly beneficial to all voters, significantly beneficial to current retirees, more progressive than Sanders, funded in a popular way, and communicable in 30 seconds. It is the best policy of hers that fits this mold, but she has 10-20 more good quick hitters, too.

Right. I like Warren and her plans but: (a) “plans” says “I got this so feel free to stay home” and “I know better than you”, both of which are demobilizing; and (b) a detailed plan is a locus of disagreement, which can be demobilizing.
