Yep, but he had his own reasons for lying about it, because there's a big difference in terms of legal jeopardy between publishing anonymously provided info and conspiring with a foreign intelligence service to attack the USA.

Eh, "explosive." Sure, Assange is just as big a liar, but this is pretty small potatoes compared to selling foreign policy for political dirt, and there were no consequences for that any more than there would be if this were proven.
