I imagine Klobuchar believes she can’t win over any of Bernie’s base but might pick up lots of Bloomberg voters if he collapses?

For sure. But her immediate goal is beating most of the field in NV and SC, where Bloomberg isn’t competing. I guess if I were her or Warren or Pete or Biden, I’d try to position myself between Bernie and Bloomberg.

I think attacking Bloomberg for trying to buy the presidency is a way to appeal to wavering progressive voters without alienating them by attacking Bernie (who is well-liked).

Not attacking Bernie because he’s well-liked is a terrible strategy if you want to win. Klobuchar should go after him like the GOP will and see where the chips fall.

She’ll criticize and contrast with him as she frequently does but I think you’re forgetting she actually likes Bernie. Recall her discussion of their work together at the last debate.

I’m not saying go after him personally. I’m saying make the case that while he’s a good person whose heart is in the right place, his plans are totally unrealistic and his socialism (especially given his past) makes him unelectable against Trump.

saying his socialism makes him unelectable is just a right wing talking point. It won’t get Klobuchar very far.

Maybe. But when only 45% of voters say they would ever vote for a socialist, seems odd not to at least raise the issue if you’re running against Sanders.

There's a reason why they don't raise it. Whenever journalists ask Bernie about being a socialist he starts saying, "Yes, I'm a socialist, like Denmark. I want Medicare for all, low drug prices etc." It gives Bernie an opening for his strengths

At which point the reporter should say, “But you were a socialist who believed the govt should nationalize the auto industry and the steel industry and oil companies, who praised Castro and supporterd a Leninist party. Why did you think these were good ideas?”

Reporters have asked him about this stuff. So far, it hasn't made a dent. Maybe it would if Klobuchar or Bloomberg raised it.

Right - it needs to come from a candidate on the debate stage. And you may be right - it may not matter at all. But it’s be good to find out one way or the other before the general election.

Probably won’t matter much in the Democratic primary, but It’ll certainly resonate with the GOP/Never Trumpers and many Independents.

Problem there is most Democrats don’t like red baiting, particularly given its ugly history in the civil rights movement.
