Good threat although I'm a bit more worried than Matt is about Bernie's weakening position in rural areas.https://twitter.com/karpmj/status/1227612331519205376 …

After Iowa & N.H., the geography of the Sanders coalition is looking a bit different than it did in 2016: in this large field, Bernie is not quite so dominant in rural areas. But in cities — where far more Democrats live — he looks even *stronger.* A few thoughts below the fold:

He based his message campaigning the last year plus on winning California, Nevada and the large Latino/black populated because they have the most delegates. He did win the white votes in both Iowa and New Hampshire, he just didn't run away with it like in 2016.

Great. So you're advocating that Democrats should nominate a person even weaker in rural areas than Hillary Clinton was. Why I like Mayor Pete: he fluently speaks the language of smaller towns and more rural geographies.

He won't get the nomination because black people are unwilling to vote for him, and that's good because a Democrat can't win unless black people turn out for the nominee.

Teasing out how much Sander’s support in 2016 was anti-Hillary (and just overt misogyny) versus support of Sanders is difficult.

And the Bloomberg financial juggernaut may start hammering Sanders with negative ads as we get closer to Super Tuesday.

Have never-Trumpers that left the GOP registered as dems? The party seems to have a lot more conservatives lately.

Yep: if you look at the projection maps now, they sort of assume that Bernie will be dominant in the rural west like he was last time, when not much indicates that. Those states a lot of the individual contests that he won, which is significant for momentum.

Bernie’s new geographic coalition looks like a mix of college towns, industrial WWC areas, poorer urban cores, and Latino territory (according to polls).
