Support for a United Ireland is broad in the south. It's far from limited to SF supporters/voters, though SF does push it more. The issue is getting people in the North on board.

And there's been no change in the taboo around "Republicanism", at least any I've noticed. If anything, it's SF moving away from that legacy in people's minds that allows this increase in their support coupled with an unpopular government propped up by the main opposition party.
