      1. We're still waiting on the full Iowa results but with 71% in, it's pretty clear that Joe Biden had a dismal showing. He came in a distant fourth (unlikely to change with more results), barely cleared the 15% threshold, and starkly underperformed his poll numbers.

      2. For over a year Biden has been the polling leader in the primaries. Even in Iowa he often placed first or second. The big question was always: is this support for real or will it deflate. The caucus results provide one early clue.

      3. Biden has benefitted from the delayed drip-drip-drip release of results, which has hidden the real story of Iowa: the collapse of his support. But donors & party leaders are paying attention and it's going to have an impact. More thoughts here:https://www.thenation.com/article/politics/biden-iowa-results-defeat/ …

What would a cornered Biden campaign look like?

          1) Caucus states with few black voters were always viewed as uniquely unsuited to Biden 2) Even if his poll standing diminishes marginally, he is virtually certain to gain a sizable amount of delegates in the South

Dismal showings in New Hampshire & Nevada might make South Carolina voters think twice and African American voters do like Warren & Sanders too (Biden was their preference but I can see Sanders or Warren getting their votes.)

To be fair, Biden also pays a huge penalty because the first two states aren't very representative of the democratic electorate (Disproportionately white, when Biden's strongest supports are Black democratic voters, a hugely important voting block in the party).

The drip drip has not helped him. Right away Monday night it was clear he had underperformed, and the preliminary results yesterday confirmed it. You could just as easily say the drip drip will keep this story in the headlines longer and hurt him.

I know what you're saying about Biden's predicament. But, around this time in 2008 H Clinton had to admit her campaign was dropout low on funds going into NH. Then the Establishment fave found out not jut fringe candidates could get numerous, small donations, and win NH...

obviously, people are expecting The Granite State to choose those whom they know, even if they might be left of center and not nearly conservative or safe. So, the expectation is Biden wouldn't do well there in NH? His best hope is SC? If he makes it that far?

Congratulations! I know you’re excited about this. Now could you please explain why the Republicans can barely contain their excitement about Bernie potentially being the nominee? Clearly they must all be stupid and not see how Bernie is the biggest threat to a Trump re-election.

Odd. You make no mention of the hours of nationally televised smears of Biden told on national TV by Trump and the GOP during impeachment. In your telling, it's as if Biden simply self-deflated. You have to be pretty dishonest to omit this from your thread. But you did it.
