Everybody who is telling you yes is wrong. The failed Dex check/rolling boulder bit is, in fact, from a Scrooge McDuck comic book that this movie paid homage to.

It is 100% true! The original inspiration was pulp novels and old timey movie serials, and those things inspired Disney adventure comics, which inspired George Lucas and Stephen Spielberg.
