He doesn't have a Gramscian sense of how ruling class gets buy in for bad policies. And while he's right that we have a moral obligation to critique foreign policy of our nation first, that doesn't deal with problem of bad actors outside our nation who we have no control over.

Which I think is a consequence of his view of moral obligation. He’s so focused on the malign effects of US power (about which he is right) that there’s not a lot of room for other considerations

I think for the piece I’ll probably describe him as a prosecutor rather than a judge. Prosecuting a guilty client.

I think that's a fair point -- but a necessary prosecutor since 99% of those who right about foreign policy are Alan Dershowitz types who will make any argument to get the guilty client off.
