No, you were dragging Chait and don't pretend otherwise.

He's untrustworthy and shouldn't be listened to.

Since primary voters will decide who the nominee is, what's the point of this argument.

The fact that a highly partisan and politically engaged pundit would vote for any Democrat in any election tells you literally nothing about a specific candidate's electability in a specific election.

If he wins the nomination, I'll be proud to be one of the 44% of voters who vote for Bernie. Especially proud to vote in what might be the last legitimate US election of our lifetimes.

I think there’s a problem with using the term “moderate Dem”. We are often thinking of Blue Dogs or others from the Clinton era, but it should factor in those new to the D coalition, like the Romney to Clinton suburbs. Those who are repulsed by Trump, but aren’t harmed by him.

A regular moderate Dem may be fine with Sanders. Those new Dems from the suburbs, who fueled the House flipping in 2018, are probably more likely to 2nd guess things. You don’t go from Romney to socialism because you see the light on high tax rates and nationalized health care.

But, also, for the record, Chait is untrustworthy.

Jeet, it’s in my fair you pose such questioning to established Bernie media types as well. If the question is electability then it must work both ways. Are you going to ask, let’s say Matt Bruenig, if he will vote for any democratic nominee?

"That's how politics works." Depends on which side you're closer to. For the left, that'll always be the centrist candidate. That's why parties tend to nominate centrists!
