Not only was Kirby an early antifa, creating these anti-Nazi Cap stories before the US entered WWII, but he was also thinking about the role of unions etc in the coming war effort.
I'm not sure if this idea of a "labour truce" is a manifestation of some sort of "united front" or is strictly capitalist propaganda. No idea if it's an AFL or CIO position, for instance?
1941 was a record year for strikes, in the wake of emergency war preparedness legislation enacted in 1940 and the rapid expansion of industry. The need for workers to do their patriotic duty was already a theme of much government and corporate propaganda.pic.twitter.com/lNJL5nMbca
The Labour Truce stuff was coming out of the White House and (after Germany invaded Russia) the CP. A lot of Trots and anarchists resisted it.
