This reminds me how much good press George H.W. Bush got because, consummate WASP that he was, he always sent nice little thank you notes to reporters & other pols. Clubbiness is in fact aligned with a certain type of politics & some people just want a genteel ruling class.https://twitter.com/People4Bernie/status/1219095357751058432 …

Yes, it's very highly valued among ... basically people who are the polar opposite of Left Twitter (car salesmen, m&a bankers, etc) and it's been more traditionally valued by The Ruling Class.

Gonna channel @davidshor here and say this is about Left Twitter being high-O, low-C (and mixed on E or A), while politics by definition values E, and has traditionally valued C and A.

I want genteel politics. That's because, despite being a 16th century historian, I know how 20th century politic ends and, believe me, genteel is better.

In fairness, it's a legit question to ask how someone that is so dogmatic would fair as POTUS when the job requires constant compromise.

Not even a Bernie Stan but his Senate record shows a great deal of compromise. Its possible to see how he would do that in office.

Seems very obvious that *all* Biden wants is genteel politics. Making it OK to been seen hitting happy hour with Republicans after a long day of horse trading is literally all he wants to accomplish.

It’s interesting to me that thoughtfulness and the ability to work well with others is somehow now a bad thing. And it’s worth considering how much Bernie might have accomplished if he ever learned to play well with others. Less screaming, more legislation.
