One thing I would enjoy about a Biden presidency is that no one but no one thinks he’s the messiah. He would just... be president. There are no Biden cultists. There are hardly even any Biden “stans.” That would be healthy.

Aren't a lot of people sick of politics at this point?

Enthusiasm comes in degrees. And there is something deeply anti-political about the craving for one strong redemptive man (usually) who will transcend all differences and disagreements and will embody a unified national will.

Yes but I don’t know if this makes a great case for Biden who’s appeal is based less on his legislative effectiveness than strong dislike for the other candidates.

The only way to stop a bad politician with deranged stans is a good politician with deranged stans!

But he was talking about the presidency, not the election.

An enthusiastic vote counts the same as an unenthusiastic vote. It'd about size, not intensity.

You win elections by have MORE voters. It does not matter if they are enthusiastic or even if the candidate is their 4th choice. As long as they get more votes (in the right states, I guess). Biden is everyone's 2nd or 3rd choice. Bernie is 1st for some or last choice for most.

Point: a Bernie nominee would make me write in Hillary, enthusiastically

Bernie has a core of enthusiastic voters. A larger number of people aren't enthusiastic about him. Unless you make this argument quantitative, it's not an argument, Jeet.

Counter-counterpoint: people don’t want another rabid cult of personality in power, they want a government that just does its job without threatening nuclear war and pissing contests with dumb memes on social media, and a president who can finish a cogent thought even once.
