There have been four American presidential elections since the Iraq War started. Twice the Democrats ran with a nominee who had supported the war (Kerry, Clinton) and lost. Twice they ran with one who opposed the war (Obama) and won.

You conveniently ignore that in addition to the patriotism push from Bush on 9/11 and Iraq, a key thing that helped push him over the top were all the gay marriage initiatives. There were multiple issues that year.
