Honestly a Gabbard (or maybe even Yang) 3rd party run would probably be a boon to the Democrats as it would draw off a ton of the contrarian "I'm sick of the system" folks that cast their lot with Trump in 2016

Nah. He's not a 3rd party guy, and knowing many of his advisers, it's hard to imagine they'd counsel him to do that. I think he's positioning himself for the convention, in the event that some of the other old white guys fade or have health problems.
