What I see in those who can’t stand this stuff (and they usually overlap with “anti-wokeness” warriors like Yang) is a veneration of a certain stiff-upper-lip ethos (“you deal with depression by pushing through it!”) that current cultural trends have the temerity to question.
not trying to yuck anyone's yum. my college depression was helped more by SSRIs and therapy than it would've been by coloring books. but whatever works. I cannot however prevent myself from being embarrassed for everyone. (maybe i need more therapy)
Why not just ask students what we want? I've never had a conversation with a friend and vented about how we wished we had coloring books and bouncy houses. Seriously, why not just reach out to us. Most of us are sitting around just waiting for the adults to show up.
