I skipped the Enlightenment book, but I’ve read a lot of Pinker and a whole lot of Pinker take-downs. What I’ve learned is that if you love most Pinker take-downs, you love tendentious, distorted caricatures of the original work. (Not a comment on the linked article. See line 1.)

There are plenty good critiques of his work of course, but the huge majority rely on a sneering “can you believe this guy?” tone, and what’s worse, it’s amazing how often they misrepresent his ideas.

Low point of the 2016 campaign for me was Obama's speech supporting HRC, telling young people to be patient and spewing some Pinkerism regarding "this being the best time in history to be born"
