    Jeet Heer Retweeted Bill Kristol

The first sentence is true -- the second is, I think, wishful thinking. There are a few Republican Senators who seem disturbed by Trump's behavior, but will they really beak ranks not just with Trump but with Mitch McConnell. We'll see.https://twitter.com/BillKristol/status/1206349152541663232 …

The Fox poll, Trump’s flailing, Lindsey’s brazenness, Rudy’s lunacy, House Democrats holding firm—all of this leads me to wonder if the GOP attempt to turn impeachment into a circus has failed. Which might mean a few Republican senators will act to ensure a real and fair trial.

Not just break ranks with 45 and McConnell, but also break with their constituents.

We already saw the script with Kavanaugh. A few will make a big public show of Having Grave Concerns, but will ultimately vote to acquit.

A side funny thing is that a more canny political movement would allow, say, Collins to vote against Trump. But there’s a zero percent chance he would be able to restrain himself from giving her a nasty nickname.

The whole point of the impeachment is electoral: to expose as many facts about Trump as possible, and then force the GOP, especially the Senate, to take a definitive stand on his exposed corruption; and hence give the electorate as much clarity as possible.

This has all been clear from the beginning. There is no chance of a GOP held Senate convicting Trump on impeachment.

Wishful thinking is the polite way of saying it. This wet dream that the Constitutional order will survive is ludicrous. MoCs now see the party leader as their employer. And they ain't wrong.
