      1. Let's look at the record: Reagan, the Bushes, and Trump ran up deficits, unnecessary ones. Clinton cut the deficit. Obama ran a stimulus deficit to fight the worst recession in 80 years. Once economy grew, he immediately (too quickly in fact) started cutting.https://twitter.com/lizcgoodwin/status/1202642363287511041 …

“My party’s not known for worrying about the deficit or the debt too much but it’s time for us to start getting into that,” Mayor Pete says in NH town hall in response to voter anxious about debt. Says everything his campaign has proposed is paid for.

George W Bush was fighting 2 wars. No one fights wars without a deficit unless you lose.

No one cuts taxes in a war unless they are wildly irresponsible.

Taxes can easily be cut in a war. Depending on which ones and where they are offset by tax rises elsewhere. Still cannot avoid a deficit during a war.

We're not talking abstractions. We're talking about Bush. And his tax cut--which benefited the wealthy, and which he promised would pay for themselves--was wildly irresponsible, unnecessary, and exacerbated the deficit and debt.

I silenced the conservative side of a wedding with this back in ‘03 “Even the Romans who fought wars merely for profit and plunder raised taxes to pay for those wars”.

Those statements are not correct as the war was not financed by household debt.
