THE IRISHMAN...was very good

Really don’t understand the sour takes on this movie. It’s a director both subverting his past work but also building upon ideas and themes that have been present from the start!

Idk I feel like Scorsese's made better versions of the "average nobody > successful criminal > average nobody again" story before. The last 30 minutes or so were exceptional, but I found the preceding 3 hours good rather than great.

It was great in general but those de-aged scenes were all apparently shot in uncanny valley and rather distracting.

Stunningly acted, marginally written, noble in stance, but completely lacking in depth. Other than demonstrating that De Niro's still got it, what's was the point?

Is it a story about corruption? No, because it ignores the impact on regular people. Is it a story about family? No, because family is nothing but a way for the main characters to demonstrate their superiority. I guess it's a story about loyalty, but only superficially.
