I not only want to pay taxes that allow the children of millionaires and billionaires to attend public schools for free, I want to give those children no other options of schools to attend.

It seems so obvious that this should be the case, but when these institutions are such an ordinary part of society, many people need an epiphanal experience to see it.

Like I remember exactly where I was when I came to this, eating pizza at Bloor and Spadina in Toronto, and looking across at the private school associated with U of T, and I suddenly thought, "This shouldn't exist." And it felt so immediately clarifying and liberating.

Many think Pierce v. Society of Sisters was about religious freedom--understandable given the case's name but wrong. One of the plaintiffs was a military academy! It wasn't even a 1st Amendment case--that had not yet been "incorporated." It was a substantive due process case.
