I’m blown away by how much blowback this is getting from progressives. He’s not even suggesting cutting all the insane subsidies colleges get. Just not giving them more when we do nothing post secondary for non-college track students.https://twitter.com/PeteButtigieg/status/1196852531307204608 …

Instead of providing free college tuition for the children of millionaires and billionaires, I will open doors of opportunity for Americans who choose not to go to college with massive investments in apprenticeships, workforce training, and lifelong learning programs.

Exactly so. You could just as easily argue against public schools since there is the danger that that the children of millionaires (and, less likely, billionaires) might take advantage.

No, this is beneath both of you. Public schools are orders of magnitude likelier than post-secondary schools to actually serve the poor.

The argument would hold if post-secondary school was free and available to all, and students who didn't attend would be truant. But that's not actually how it works.

This is simply a blatant lie, Mr Heer. Everyone can go to public school. Public schools overwhelmingly serve the poor. Whereas, even if college is tuition free, it will be attended primarily by the rich, unless you have a quota system forcing a more equitable admission policy.

          Replying to @dhanuraashi @HeerJeet and

Even if you totally abolished selective admissions for college (which itself would be impossibly hard), college would not be like school, because poor children would face overwhelming pressure to work and earn money after graduating high school.
