I think that Pinker is probably at least somewhat correct, but it's unclear what's to be gained from it. Language can and will absorb calling individuals by they/them pronouns.

If I may, part of the resistance on my part (other than the grating sound it has on the ear in some contexts) is the lack of time to absorb a truly major change in linguistic practice. I am being told that I must instantly not only accept, but also fluently practice, this change.
