This is correct. I'd add that there is a long history in comics of creators getting labelled "bitter," "curmudgeonly," "reclusive," and even "crazy" because they fought for creator rights or objected to being peons: Kirby, Wally Wood, Steve Ditko.https://twitter.com/shallowbrigade/status/1196514477178605568 …

🗣️Alan Moore is not a curmudgeon and his branding as such only benefits DC Comics and, to a lesser degree, Damon Lindelof, who are unequivocally the villains of the Watchmen dispute

Not just in comics, Terry Gilliam comes to mind too.

I’d say Moore is a bit more complicated than, eg Kirby. A good portion of his work this century has essentially been taking the characters of other creators and telling stories that would have no doubt upset those creators. Also: his absurd attacks on Morrison.

Only Moore gets to play with and sometimes denigrate other people's creations.

I’m sure that’s true, but it’s also true that in every interview I’ve seen Alan Moore seems like a genuine oddball

Moore is also clearly bitter he got fleeced by the early contracts he signed with DC. You were an adult Alan

That doesn’t mean he wasn’t taken advantage of. There’s a pretty clear power imbalance between a young creative and a massive publishing house/rights holder.
