My memory is yes--people weren't enthusiastic about his politics, but there was excitement over the idea of a first Jewish VP.

Hmm. It's partly that Bernie isn't the nominee yet -- and those who don't support him see him as a longshot. I imagine the prospect of Jewish president would change if he were the nominee. But also: USA Jewish population is old: 26% over 65. That's not Bernie's crowd.
