Reminds me of that UK election in 2017 when Labor out-performed expectations (though not enough to actually control parliament) and rose-twitter was drunk with victory. Flash forward 2 years and Conservatives are on the verge of winning yet another election while Labor flounders

It seems like the world's most preeminent examples of social democracy could also be described as neo-liberal. Not really opposites. Scandinavian countries have strong social safety nets, high-functioning government, and also free trade and relatively low regulation.
