This is fine, but it assumes too much. How does a vanquished POTUS Trump handle 2021-2024? Does anybody think he wouldn't be the favorite to win the 2024 nomination? That he would refuse to rule it out (until at least January 2024)? That he'll campaign until he can't anymore?https://twitter.com/NRO/status/1193959213292277762 …

It is a good question and in ego terms absolutely, not only is it all about him but clearly disappointment and disdain is his primary posture toward his son. In 2024 he'll be 78, which is getting up there. But Dems have two candidates in that range and House Speaker is too.

At a bare minimum would insist he was thinking about it all the way until it became implausible. That creates an enormous distorting effect that is personal to him and not ideological for anybody else thinking of running.

Yeah, it's really true. Obviously there've been similar things with others. But none with his personalizing gravitational force.

Not impossible to imagine a 2021 scenario where Republicans deeply regret not removing Trump from office and prohibiting him from seeking it again while they had the chance.

Yeah hanging around as a gravitational force that prevents gop from moving on to a younger illiberal face like Hawley but also being unelectable himself is worst of all worlds.

Also cld see the logic of making trump and all lineal descendants barred from office.

The Austrians have some sort of law where Habsburgs have to renounce any monarchal claims or are denied citizenship. Might be worth copying and pasting.

"corruption of blood" but applied to elective office is I think the concept we're looking for. constitution bars it as a punishment for treason. But general prohibition is statutory.

Not for nothin, but wouldn’t a vanquished, unpresidented Trump be facing a growing list of criminal investigations starting in 2021?
