1. By my count this is the third big election night since 2016 when the Democrats have ridden to victory on a big blue wave. So can we please calm the fuck down?

3. Fear is the mind-killer: the prospect of a Trump re-election is used as a cudgel to force Democrats to be more cautious. But at least in the special elections, what we're seeing is an energized party where even the most moderate candidates are more progressive than before.

My fear is about electoral fraud and Trump-Putin rigging the system (as they did in 2016). Judging by how compromised the Republican Party continues to clearly be, I think this is a valid fear. I certainly don't fear an honest election.

There is also, I think, a general feeling among Dems that ~believing that the Dems were in the lead and therefore not taking the race seriously~ was one of the things that caused the loss in 2016. So people look at numbers and basically say "if we think we're winning we've lost"

My nerves are a function of probability of Trump being reelected multiplied by the damage he could do. I think Democrats will win, but the damage a Trump victory would yield is tremendous.

I’m still convinced Biden could manage to lose to Trump.

@Nate_Cohn 's recent NYT swing state polls had a more chilling effect on our mood than folks have acknowledged? But that KY/VA elections have now allayed? Still, despite numerous queries, Nate has not answered why he thinks trump will double his black vote support in 2020.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

it's less "democrats are nervous" and more "the rich ppl who have been in control of the dem party since 1980 & pushing antigovernment ~market solutions~ are nervous they're losing their grip and putting out antileft scaremongering to shore up right-dem candidates"

Glad about Virginia, but I would like to see more of a crack opening in deeper red places. It looks like Bevin's loss in KY is more due to his awful personality than anything else; the whole legislature is R and plenty of them are MAGA as hell.
