nobody cares except me doing lecture prep but Oscar Romero was not a liberation theologian as google seems to think, he was a moderate bishop who criticized government repression in El Salvador and was killed for it

a surprising number of you active on this website on Sunday night care about this! just to be clear Romero had moved left, cared about ministering to the poor, cared about ending government repression, but from a more mainstream tradition than the LT priests

Last thing and then I have to go finish this lecture: none of this is intended as a critique of Romero; he learned, and listened, and tried to do good with his position. But part of what was shocking about his murder was that he _wasn't_ a radical

I think that's right -- the murder of so mainstream a figure underscores how insane the regime was.
