1. Lots of people are cheering Twitter for rejecting political ads but there are serious downsides to this. As @ryangrim points out social media spending is a good way for insurgent campaigns to gain traction.

So let’s nationalize Facebook, Twitter, Google and Apple then. Is that what you are suggesting?

Real talk: I don't want to see any ads. ANY. And I ignore the ones that show up. You know... like a sane person.

I mean, fair, but Twitter - like other services - don't run for free. There has to be a revenue model of some kind. How much should I put you down for your monthly Twitter subscription?

Accounts like
@FrackFeed (a hilarious follow by the way, an oil company spending so much money and time on an account that gets zero engagement) get to run their stuff unopposed. Also limits political ads from reaching the younger gen.https://twitter.com/ryanlcooper/status/1189993068281442304?s=20 …

There statement was all political ads world wide. How is it even possible to police the ads all over the world when twitter itself has been responsible for revolutions. It’s bull shit right off the bat

"Social media rules on political speech are too important to be left to the billionaires." Agreed, which is why Jack declining to arbitrate political speech seems like the preferable outcome.
-
Read the article! He's still arbitrating -- he'll take ads from Exxon but not from environmentalists.

Do you propose anything concrete, something beyond the vague call to “regulate” Facebook and Twitter?

The conflation of rules against political advertising with rules on political speech is an expression of the nefarious money=speech paradigm which is the cause of everything that is wrong with our government.
