In 1951 Joseph McCarthy smeared one of the great military leaders of World War II, George Marshall. Eisenhower & Nixon sat by & let him do it. The idea that patriotic military service provides a shield from partisan attack is absurd.

Hey, doesn't make it right. And Joseph McCarthy as an example kinda makes that point.

Nixon, I can understand. Eisenhower laid a turd which Marshall never forgave him for, not that Marshall cared that much about Eisenhower.

No need to go back to ancient history. Remember the Maine, the Alamo, and the 2004 campaign.
