Also: full funding only goes back to the 80s & Bill Davis. It isn’t all ancient tradition.

Also the thing nobody talks about: all the teachers in the catholic system who are catholic in job classification only. They aren’t beliebers (and yet continue to be great teachers anyway). Going through the catholic motions like a lapsed bride and groom to be w churchy designs.

I actually liked my catholic school experience. Some great teachers (many who had no interest in doctrine but went thru motions). And long after grad I used to vote for the catholic trustees. But I realized when catholic schools started banning GSAs the reason our time was ok ...

...was because nobody was out. Nobody really tried to be different (beyond doc martins and etc). Nobody pushed it. Had somebody tried, I realized, it would have been ugly. 25-30 years ago ugly. Cuz suppression was societal, it made it seem like the school was cool.

Still loved a bunch of the teachers. We had a gr 12 religion teacher who invited us to his house for summer solstice celebration (pagan!) and we had the best English teachers who made me want to write.
