Imagine if Trump loses the election and then a top advisor of Texas Governor Greg Abbott called for the collective punishment of everyone in Texas who came from Rhode Island. That's basically what's happening in Canada.
The key dynamic here is that a significant number powerful Canadian right-wingers are very bitter about Trudeau's win. They thought election was winnable (Liberals weakened by scandal, right-wing revved up). They aren't dealing with it well & are looking for someone to hurt.
In sum, this was not a typical Canadian election & the bitterness on the right is intense. It's going to take real skill on Trudeau's part to calm things down.

Conservatives everywhere are a plague.
don't understand. why is this particularly focused on Newfoundland? More symbolic like wigging out at Massachusetts or Maryland?
A lot of Newfoundlanders have moved to Alberta to work in the oil sands. They send money back home. So right-wing Albertans feel Newfoundland should be grateful and vote Conservative. They see Liberal victory in Newfoundland as a betrayal
I suspect there won't be a hit Broadway musical about the generosity of spirit of albertans.
Sweeney Todd has been done.
