I agree that our greatest hope is a multi-racial, working class movement. I wrote a book making that argument I believe it so deeply. I don’t think Sanders can build it.https://twitter.com/AOC/status/1185640849054556160 …

Tamara Draut added,
Bernie is right now leading a multi-racial working class movement that has by far more donors (especially working class donors) than any other candidate and is supported by 1 in 6 Democrats. To not support him is to oppose this project of a multi-racial working class movement.
Biden has more support among multi-racial working class people. And Warren leads Sanders among working class people and people of color in a number of polls. Also, in what sense is Sanders' campaign a "movement"?
Biden is not offering any sort of left program but only nostalgia. And the social composition of Bernie's donors is far more working class than Warren's.pic.twitter.com/0sZXzDCDpY
The reason Warren's base was initially disproportionately higher income and college-educated is that it was her first time running in a national race and educated, higher income voters is the group that, early on, pays the most attention to politics.
Working class support for Biden and Sanders is largely an artifact of name recognition, because working class voters don't tend to tune into the race until later.
That same pattern held true with Barack Obama in 2008. Remember all that "wine track/beer track" bullshit, which claimed Hillary Clinton was "the beer and a shot" candidate and the heroine of the working class? And yet Obama ended up doing just fine with working class voters.
Sure, the composition of supporters will change over election & it's easy to imagine Warren picking up working class supporters. But the Obama comparison cuts a different way: did Obama govern as a social democrat or as a PMC president?
Also, Warren was the original movement candidate. She was the candidate of Occupy Wall Street. The org that turned into People for Bernie was originally a draft Warren group. Warren was the first choice of the Occupy Wall Street activists. I'm currently writing about this
Sure, Warren's decision not to run in 2016 is regrettable. The whole Bernie thing wouldn't have happened if she had run.
