I agree that our greatest hope is a multi-racial, working class movement. I wrote a book making that argument I believe it so deeply. I don’t think Sanders can build it.https://twitter.com/AOC/status/1185640849054556160 …

Today I am endorsing Senator @BernieSanders for president. In the end, we must come together to defeat Donald Trump. We should do so knowing he is a symptom of a larger problem - and our greatest hope is a multiracial, working class movement in the United States of America. pic.twitter.com/9fiTS7FTX9

Bernie is right now leading a multi-racial working class movement that has by far more donors (especially working class donors) than any other candidate and is supported by 1 in 6 Democrats. To not support him is to oppose this project of a multi-racial working class movement.

Biden has more support among multi-racial working class people. And Warren leads Sanders among working class people and people of color in a number of polls. Also, in what sense is Sanders' campaign a "movement"?

Biden is not offering any sort of left program but only nostalgia. And the social composition of Bernie's donors is far more working class than Warren's.pic.twitter.com/0sZXzDCDpY

The reason Warren's base was initially disproportionately higher income and college-educated is that it was her first time running in a national race and educated, higher income voters is the group that, early on, pays the most attention to politics.

Working class support for Biden and Sanders is largely an artifact of name recognition, because working class voters don't tend to tune into the race until later.

That same pattern held true with Barack Obama in 2008. Remember all that "wine track/beer track" bullshit, which claimed Hillary Clinton was "the beer and a shot" candidate and the heroine of the working class? And yet Obama ended up doing just fine with working class voters.

In this thread I argued this point at greater length, with plenty of data to back me up:https://twitter.com/kathy__gee/status/1175699887285002240 …

There's been a lot of talk, much of it from people who should really know better, to the effect that Bernie Sanders is a stronger candidate than Elizabeth Warren because he attracts more working class support, while her appeal is concentrated among college-educated voters.

I read the thread when it came out and agree that Warren could easily pick up working class support. Indeed, if I had to pick a likely winner right now it would be Warren. But that's not the same as saying she's a social democratic candidate.
