Yes, Sturges's wife Eleanor Post Hutton never owned Mar-a-Lago. Her mother Marjorie Merriweather Post did (the Maryland concert venue Merriweather Post Pavilion is named for her, and she was the heiress to the Post Cereal fortune.)

Those older writers had checkered ideologies. Like some weren’t racists but were anti semitic or believed in eugenics or something else “unwholesome”.

I wouldn't say Sturges was any of those things. He just grew up in a strange environment that was both very rich and very bohemian.
