Douthat thinks the Midwest is all white? Has he ever been to Chicago? Detroit? Cleveland? Milwaukee? Flint? Dem primary in Illinois was barely half white. 70% in Michigan. Tennessee & North Carolina were over 60% white Besides, doesn’t he know about delegate allocation?https://twitter.com/AlecMacGillis/status/1184555930609946625 …

Point taken, but his broader argument stands. Those two moderate candidates are running in a party where moderate voters increasingly tend to be non-white, and they don't have a connection to those voters the way Biden does. There's an ideological/demographic mismatch for B & K.

Eh, maybe. But this all assumes candidates w equal ability. Seems dubious to me; PB’s last election he got under 9K votes against nominal opposition. He’s never been tested. Klobuchar’s 3 elections were Dem wave years in state that hasn’t voted for Repub pres in almost 50 years

And here’s another problem w
@DouthatNYT idea that Klobuchar & Buttigieg are lagging because there are fewer mod/con Dems. Here’s the last Q poll, mod/con Dems: Biden 36 Warren 19 Don’t Know 9 Buttegeig 9 Sanders 6 Klobuchar 43 replies 0 retweets 2 likes
Can you point out where Douthat says there are "fewer mod/con Dems"? I don't read his column as making that argument.
