In these endless debates over the utility of the term, people should really take the evolution of its use in Latin America into account. It became part of critical common sense there, neoliberalismo, much earlier than it did in US.

I'm sure many of the Anglo-American middlebrows like Klein/Chait who object to "neoliberalism" would simultaneously claim to understand how parochial & anti-cosmopolitan it'd be to insistently shout down any alternative to the oddly specific US English usage of the term "liberal"
