2. Two things hold the Trumpized GOP together: fear & hope. The fear is that anyone who breaks rank will be attacked by Trump (Romney etc). The hope is more interesting: any post-Trump future in party will include keeping Trump supporters happy.

3. The Watergate analogy is instructive: the Republicans who stuck with Nixon as long as possible (most effusively Ronald Reagan but also Bob Dole & George HW Bush) prospered in the party. The ones who jumped ship early were seen as betrayers.
