Gen Xers grew up at the end of the red scare and still did red scare bombing drills in school iirc. It was drilled into their subconscious as something bad.

Gen-Xer here. No draft, no global warming, so most of us were apolitical in our youth. The most ambitious among us were college republican hall monitor types. They wore suits to class. They held Gulf War rallies. They cheered when a Greenpeace boat was bombed. That's our legacy.
