It's very normal and not at all a pretentious torture of language to say "Clintonian-Obamamite gestalt" when you mean "the democratic party"pic.twitter.com/pPdmrs0pKm

I think Jeet means "faction" or maybe "worldview." He's pointing out that Chait is a booster of a certain kind of centrist, technocratic Democrat.

Except his “faction” is like 95% of the Democratic party electorate. It’s that game the Jacobros started playing after the 2016 election of pejoratively referring to non-Repubs who weren’t Bernie zealots as “centrists”

Even popular factions are factions.

A faction is a small minority group within a larger group. 80-95% is not a faction

Yes, there was never any dissent in the Democratic party against Clinton or Obama on major policy issues. https://twitter.com/zeithistoriker/status/1177942852933844992 …

Yes, Dana, I know you have a long and varied career in Democratic party. Which is why I get frustrated when you claim an 95% consensus in party that (as you know well) has had many divisions.

A. You can’t point to where I said or implied 95% consensus on policy or strategy bc I didn’t B. That you think there’s some big Dem faction that’s not pro-Obama or pro-Clinton is bizarroland. But hey, you go with that. I’m sure it leads to sound analysis.

People like Obama enormously as a person even if they disagree with some of his policies, same with Clinton (to a lesser degree). So obviously personal popularity can be coupled with people wanting different policies.
